Operating Local Payment Systems at CBK During Weekends & Official Holidays

The Central Bank of Kuwait (CBK), the operator and regulator of the national payment systems infrastructure, issued a circular to all local banks on 16 March 2025 regarding the working hours of Kuwait's Automated Settlement System for Inter-Participant Payments (KASSIP) and Kuwait Electronic Cheque Clearing System (KECCS) during weekends and public holidays starting 01 April 2025 as follows:

  • Kuwait's Automated Settlement System for Inter-Participant Payments (KASSIP) hours are from 7:00 am. to 11:15 pm.

  • Kuwait Electronic Cheque Clearing System (KECCS): banks can submit customers' cheques 24 hours a day. For same-day cheque collection, the last submission time is until 7:00 pm. and response thereto by 8:00 pm., excluding CBK’s cheques.

Accordingly, local banks customers will be able to process money transfers through electronic banking channels from 7:00 am. to 11:00 pm., while interbank transfers will be until 11:15 pm. Cheques in KWD can also be collected electronically on the same day if submitted before 7:00 pm.

This action was taken as part of CBK’s ongoing efforts to enhance the quality, sustainability and efficiency of the financial services and payment systems in the Kuwaiti banking sector.  This also aim at strengthening the fundamentals of financial and monetary stability in the State of Kuwait, and in order to provide around-the-clock financial services that cater to the needs of different segments of society, and serve all sectors of the national economy.
