Press Statement of H.E. Sheikh Salem Abdulaziz Al-Sabah, Governor of the Central Bank of Kuwait (CBK) regarding expanding the content of its periodic statistical publications to encompass statistics and aggregate financial data on exchange companies subject to its supervision, and statistics on the use of plastic cards in the banking system
H.E. Sheikh Salem Abdulaziz Al-Sabah, Governor of the Central Bank of Kuwait (CBK), announced that the CBK has expanded the content of its periodic statistical publications to encompass statistics and aggregate financial data on exchange companies subject to its supervision, in addition to statistics and data on the growth in the volume of plastic cards operations, which reflects the rise of banking awareness among the public; noting that plastic cards encompass both credit and ATM cards issued by local banks, and those which are issued by foreign banks and used domestically.
H.E. the Governor clarified that publishing these statistics in CBK's periodic publications is in keeping with CBK's policy to expand and upgrade its database on the banking and financial sector, so as to make available more comprehensive indicators to those interested in following up the economic and financial developments in the State of Kuwait, and to improve the bases upon which the users of these data and information take decisions.
The CBK started since the beginning of March 2006 to include, in their periodic statistical publications, aggregate financial data and statistics on both conventional investment companies and investment companies operating according to the provisions of Islamic Sharia.
H.E. the Governor also stated that expanding the contents of the bank's periodic publications -namely the Monthly Monetary Statistics, and the Quarterly Statistical Bulletin- is in line with CBK's policy and directions to encourage building advanced economic databases, information and statistics which are readily accessible to users as well as to those interested in following up economic developments; noting that such expansion is in fulfillment of one of the requirements of developing the State of Kuwait into a financial center.
